Our Style
Hi, I am Luanne, a Michigan-based photographer. I work with my family, who love people and are passionate about marriage and weddings. My background as an award winning newspaper reporter and photographer lends to the style that I have developed while photographing weddings, a style that blends a contemporary photographic approach with a wedding photojournalism.
My motto is the advice I was given by my friend and newspaper editor, Tom Wearing, when asked to cover the Vietnam Moving Wall Memorial in our town. Tom said these simple words that I used that day, "Look for the emotion; and let that tell the story." This is exactly what I do at each and every wedding.
I am assisted by my son Nickolas, who has a natural talent for photography and capturing details. Although he is only 16, he has an amazing eye for capturing photos. His work was chosen as Runner Up in the 2010 Natural History Museum's International Wildlife Competition as well as chosen by the editor of National Geographic Magazine for it's Daily Dozen feature. Nickolas shares my passion for capturing emotion filled photographs. You can see some of Nick's amazing wedding photos on our Blog.
My daughters Alexa and Brieanna are also artists. Alexa is an award winning graduate of Spec's Howard School of Media Arts, graduating top in her Graphic Design class. She is responsible for our great "look" and branding our business, and also creates beautiful wedding albums. Brieanna is a sensational sketch and cartoon artist, and is our Slide Show designer. Her attention to detail and story boarding, allows her to tell your story simply, elegantly...creating slide shows that are timeless.
My husband Jon, is our technician, he knows our equipment, flashes, cameras, etc...from the inside and out. This means, that he as he sets up or takes down the equipment, we can continue shooting so that we don't miss a single important moment at your event.
Our approach to wedding photography helps us stand out in the very crowded wedding photography market. Our approach, and style is totally unobtrusive, meaning that with the exception of traditionally posed photos, we will not dictate, prompt or manipulate anything throughout your very special wedding day, However, even our posed sessions are full of emotional captures as the new Mr. & Mrs. interact, though posed...or I should say directed. For example, I will say something like, whisper something in her ear...you cannot pose what will occur naturally when he does...it just happens, and what the camera captures is nothing short of the pure... love, joy & happiness that occur at the precise moment.
For me, a wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime event that should be photographed and documented quietly, with complete respect to the event unfolding. I will seek out emotive images during your wedding day, photographing using natural light, unless flash is the only way to capture the event, {ie, dark church or reception halls} and will present to you a visual documentary of your wedding day that will be a wonderfully tangible memory for you.
The style of my wedding photography leads me to be described as a wedding photojournalist, documentary wedding photographer or reportage wedding photographer. Each of those descriptions are largely academic - in short, I specialize in truly telling the story of your wedding day, through wonderful photographs. No prompting, no directing, no spot-coloring or tilted images from me. Just genuine, emotion filled images that document your wedding day in a way that will make you want to reach for your wedding book time and time again.
